PROCÉS is a sound piece composed by Barcelona based artist Pi /EMARX during his residency at Phonos Foundation. All the sounds of this piece have been recorded in original machinery of the process of Catalan industrialization during the last two years. In this three-movement multichannel piece the sounds have been distributed in space in layers, just as in an orchestra the instruments are grouped according to their nature. No sound has been processed. No sound has been recreated. This 16 minute piece has been supported by generative visual elements by J. Lavandeira
Soroll
Residency at Estruch Media Lab

Through an investigation of documentary sources and artistic practice we build a bridge between the past of the textile city and the current city Catalan. Through an artistic critical narrative based on digital tools such as convolution, spatialization, sound files and three-dimensional environments that we want
ask us: Can we draw parallels between different social structures through a comparative study of their noises?
Aren't modern cities a chaotic abstraction of textile colonies? The chains of production and consumption of present are nothing more than a broken mirror of the past that prevents us from seeing clearly the current precariousness?

SONOTOMIA is a European project that merges two concepts, the intangible and tangible cultural heritage, in a very innovative way. Music, biodiversity as well as historical sites and buildings are connected to sound in different ways. Sound is a powerful tool to link and connect the past with future, just as cultural heritage does. The values and unique characteristics of shared cultural heritage can be captured and transmitted through shared sounds.
